Dang Phuong Viet.jpg

Dang Phuong Viet was born in Hanoi in 1972 and graduated with distinction from the Hanoi Fine Arts University in 1999. His works are primarily oil on canvas using the language of modern realism. He uses his art to express human emotion in an abstract way and the ideas and colours in each of his studies is impacted by his understanding of Mandala and Buddhism.

Each of his paintings is carefully planned ahead of time with colours and positioning predetermined so the intended outcome can be realised. Dang Phuong Viet’s life and paintings have been significantly influenced by his early years in Hanoi. When growing up, he lived on Hang Ma Street, a place famous for its colourful clothing and objects that were made to be burned for the souls of the dead.

Dang Phuong Viet’s works are exhibited in Singapore, Sweden, Romania, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan and the United States and are widely collected throughout the world. He has received recent awards from Unesco, The Hanoi Fine Arts Association and at the ASEAN Asia Pacific exhibition. His largest work to-date hangs in the Vietnam Ministry of Finance.
